Update: Extension for Eagle

Posted on Jan 4 2021 - 3:54pm

National has changed the process and paperwork used to request Eagle extensions. Please see the details below that are direct from National. The new forms have been posted on the LEC website. This form (attached is a sample) should be completed and sent to Heather McMillan at the office for processing. Chris Friswold has retired and Heather is now the point person for Eagle paperwork. They are no longer processing ‘COVID’ extensions, however the pandemic can still be cited as a reason for an extension request. The extension request requires that the number of months needed be indicated (not to exceed 6 months) and should be done accurately since extensions to the extension are not possible. Merit Badge completion should not be an issue, with over 650 MBCs registered in our council, a Scout should be able to continue working on a badge with an individual counselor. Working on a project can be challenging but can still be done. There are resources on the LEC website to help with planning and executing work sessions. One point to make is that a Scout might have to completely reconsider their project to make it still feasible with the pandemic, even if it was already approved. The purpose of the project is to provide leadership, not necessarily build some massive structure. Please work with any Scouts that you have that are close to their 18th birthday and working on their Eagle rank on these new procedures and considerations.
